Martha Lester Harris is an accomplished entrepreneur in both the public and private sectors. In 2009, she cofounded Fizika Group, LLC, a professional development firm that offers proven methods and resources to increase student engagement in learning. Previously, Martha co-founded InnerLink, Inc., a software development company in Lancaster that provides electronic health records for school nurses. Since 2005, Martha has worked closely with PSAHPERD to promote quality health and physical education for all students in Pennsylvania. Under her leadership, Fizika created the Active Learning Specialist Course to help teachers create enriched learning environments that encourage daily physical activity and critical thinking skills. In September, 2015, Martha was named CEO of the YWCA Lancaster, a 126 year old organization devoted to empowering women and eliminating racism. She looks forward to re-envisioning the health and wellness agenda of the YWCA, which provides childcare from infants to toddlers, before and after school care for elementary students, residential housing for women and children, sexual assault prevention counseling and anti-racism training, Martha has worked for two Pennsylvania governors, Ridge and Thornburgh and the late Senator John Heinz. Following graduation from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government in 1987 she created the Southwestern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center. She served for five years in the Ridge Administration as a Deputy Secretary of DCED where she helped create Pennsylvania's workforce investment system. In 2005, Governor Rendell named Martha a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania. She earned a BA from Dickinson College in 1977.

 Martha and herhusband Randolph J. Harris are the proud parents of Kathryn Elise Harris, Alvernia University – class of 2015 and Amanda Harris Eden, a public relations executive who is married to a Methodist minister, Rev. Christopher Eden, pastor of Boehm’s United Methodist Church in Willow Street, PA. The Edens have three daughters, Maria, age 11, Lucia, age 9, and Anya, age 7 and a son Sebastian, age 1 and a half years old.

Martha Lester Harris’s achievements are worthy of the 2015 PSAHPERD Layman Honor Award.
